CB Radio Recommendations
Since I have been approached on a few occasions about CB radio communications on the caravan, I have decided to make it easy for you to decide on what to buy. My recommendations are below:
Clay’s Radio Shop is a good place to purchase your CB radio and antenna. Their pricing is reasonable and their service is excellent. I have no connection with this company other than I have made purchases there on several occasions with good results. There website is: http://www.claysradioshop.com/index.htm . Their phone number is: 800-917-6698.
When we recently shopped for CB (Citizens Band) radios, we did so after major changes had taken place in the design and inclusion of weather stations on the CBs. We find that having weather listening capabilities is wonderful especially if you are traveling down the road and note there are some very dark clouds off in the distance or if you are in the campsite and want to know what to expect for weather that night or the next day. The National Weather Service provides excellent weather coverage throughout the USA.
We settled on a reasonably priced and easy to use Uniden 68 Elite. It has 7 weather channels, 40 CB channels and does a good job with voice communications. The radio is not large and easy to mount or temporarily use inside your tow vehicle or trailer. The cost of the radio at Clay’s Radio Shop is $99.95. http://www.claysradioshop.com/uniden68elite.htm
I recommend adding the Performance Tune-up for $40 because it makes a huge difference in sending/receiving voice communications. Listening to two people with the same brand & model radio who are at the fringe of range, you definitely will hear the person using the radio that has been Performance Tuned.
The best antenna we’ve personally used on the roof of our tow vehicles is the Wilson 1000 Magnetic Mount with a 62” stainless steel whip. Tests comparing this antenna with others have proved that this antenna is superior to all others including the K40 brand. Clay’s Radio Shop has this antenna for $79.95 on their website: http://www.claysradioshop.com/antennas-base_load.htm
